Old and Alsatian furniture and paintings
Exceptional two-body buffet, curved facade and sides, gendarme's hat cornice, the panels are inlaid with rocaille motifs, volutes and stylized shells, surrounded by interlacing fillets.
This piece of furniture, made in the 18th century in a dense and good quality walnut, presents the characteristics of the masterpieces of the Colmar workshops, in particular the scalloped belt of the base with small curved feet and the long lace cards used for the door fittings.
The curve of the facade is "crossbow", very complex to achieve this principle is rarely used for the creation of cabinets and sideboards, confirms the rarity of this piece.
To increase the degree of complexity, the Master brought a concave profile to the uprights, this movement is projected into the cornice which presents an incredible sinuosity, punctuated by the alternation of the grain wood and end wood which composes it.
The design of this very beautiful piece of furniture is inspired by the baroque themes that were very fashionable in Alsace and which developed until the middle of the 18th century and can be compared to the exceptional curved cabinet which is part of the collections of the Unterlinden Museum from Colmar.
The locksmithing is neat with its two wrought iron cremones, even the nuts hidden in the lock case are shaped like cloverleafs.
Presentation and ceremonial furniture, the interior was often lacquered in order to highlight crockery and silverware, the upper body has a pull which allowed the display of hanaps and baskets loaded with fruits and shells.
Walnut built in softwood, Alsace, Colmar, 18th century period.
