18th century Commode curved on three sides and inlaided

Chest of drawers with three drawers, the front and sides of which are curved. The drawers are inlaid with geometric patterns, a set of full-bleed cubes is bordered by fillets whose angles are Greek, all surrounded by a frieze. The uprights are rounded and project like columns and have a decoration of alternating chevrons, side panels also surrounded by a large frieze surround a set of interlocking stars. The top presents two panels with parquet patterns positioned on either side of a medallion with scrolled contours, this one, surrounded by nets, presents a composition integrating flower patterns and musical instruments.

The quality of the furniture is exceptional, the edge of the top and the base are made of end grain wood, this technique consists of positioning pieces of walnut end to end, the wood grain of which is transverse, producing a remarkable effect after molding.

The cabinetmaker wanted to show the high level of his know-how by reproducing in marquetry different types of geometric patterns, this is probably a work of mastery. The furniture frame is made of softwood. Alsace Strasbourg Period 18th century
