Louis XV chest of drawers, Stamped Jean-Mathieu Chevallier

This small curved chest of drawers opens with two drawers without crossbars.
It is inlaid with a bouquet of flowers connected by a ribbon in sycamore and tinted sycamore on a background of amaranth, represented in a large central scrolled cartouche in tinted sycamore.

The facade around the cartouche and the curved sides are inlaid with rosewood and amaranth cubes and framed with a tinted sycamore net.

This chest of drawers is decorated with gilded bronze by its four spout handles, a rare form in the furniture of this period, the keyholes in stylized shapes, the bronze apron in rocaille interlacing, chiseled and openwork and the drops in stylized and openwork foliage interlacing .

It rests on four arched legs, the two rear ones chamfered and the two front ones with enveloping gilt bronze sabots.

Its top, in veined brown marble, is molded on its field with a double-grooved corbin beak.

This chest of drawers, very interesting due to its small size, is stamped “Chevallier” twice.

Dimensions: H 87 x W 80 x 47 D

Jean-Mathieu CHEVALLIER is a cabinetmaker who became a master on March 5, 1743.
Highly recognized under Louis

From his production, we keep furniture always inlaid with flowers with stems very often connected by a ribbon, as is the case on our chest of drawers. And geometric designs also present here.

Died in 1768 but very popular in society, his wife kept his store until her own death.
