Offered by Franck Baptiste Paris
Rare and large mirror with double inverted profiles in red tortoiseshell veneer separated by blackened wooden strips.
Softwood core.
Original wrought iron hanging hooks; mercury glass.
Good state of conservation, small restorations of use to the veneer.
Flemish work from the 17th century.
Height: 102 cm; Width: 81.5 cm
Our opinion :
Our mirror features a very beautiful quality of tortoise shells of the most beautiful variety "Eretmochelys imbricata", with radiant decoration on a still very fresh red background.
It is extremely rare due to its size, because such a mirror required not only a large mercury glass but also numerous tortoise shells, a material which was still particularly expensive in the 17th century.
