Louis XVI period Secretaire
Stamped J.B TUART in small characters
This piece of furniture has 5 drawers in the front and a flap inlaid with rosewood with a butterfly decoration and a frame with a net of lemon tree.
Jean Baptiste Tuart Cabinetmaker. Paris. His first productions are stamped: I.-B Tuart. We find this imprint on pieces of Louis XV style. Under Louis XVI, the master made use of another iron printing:" J.-B Tuart" in smaller letters
passed master in 1741
Jean Baptiste Tuart is still mentioned in 1767 and we don't know when he stopped practicing his trade.
His son, who bears the same first name, worked with him for some time before establishing himself in 1760 as a master tablemaker and merchant.
