17th & 18th centuries Furniture and Statuary
Rare pair of walnut arm chairs from the early 17th century.
Each seat rests on a turned walnut base decorated with balusters.
The armrests have an elegant decor with a molded butt.
The quality of the turning, the wide proportions of the seat, the straight back, make it a characteristic testimony of the French production of the first half of the XVII° century.
The arm chair has been a seat of elegant society since the first half of the 17th century. Women can now use it, the fashion for cumbersome virtue having passed since the advent of Louis XIII.
