Music box with singing bird. Music box of rectangular shape in gilded brass and polychrome enamel. The top is decorated with a country style decoration representing a couple of shepherds in a bucolic environment. This decoration is inspired by 18th century compositions. The frame is decorated with circular medallions representing lake scenes with medieval castles on a background of alpine landscapes. The lid conceals a singing bird wagging its beak and opening its wings. The mechanism is activated by a push button on the case. Under the bottom, a signature crossed out and marked with a bird. The Griesbaum company was founded in 1905 in the town of Triberg, Schwarz Wald (Black Forest), Germany. Its founder Karl Griesbaum was born in 1872 and founded an automaton company specialized in songbirds.
