Offered by Franck Baptiste Paris
Rare pair of sconces in chased bronze and gilded with mercury.
The shafts decorated with cherubs clinging to a scroll of acanthus from which springs two
arms of lights twirling and simulating a climbing plant that supports the cups. The latter,
delicately decorated with gadrooned friezes and mantling, support the two foliated bobbins.
Nice state of preservation ; original mercury gilding.
Parisian work around 1720-1730.
Dimensions :
Height : 50 cm ; Widht : 35 cm.
Our view :
As indicated by the asymmetrical arms imitating the plant kingdom, our two sconces are most
likely inspired by an original model by André Charles Boulle.
The decorative repertoire purely Rengency is his as well as the pure and very nervous line.
Several variants with this type of arms are known, with or without cherubs, with jacks,
musicians…
The master will have a strong influence on the decorative arts and many workshops will still
be inspired.
