17th & 18th centuries Furniture and Statuary
Draped in a long tunic and an ample coat furrowed with folds, this sculpture of Saint Peter in polychrome wood is still in the iconographic tradition of the 15th century.
His face, with its exposed and wrinkled forehead, framed by the curls of his hair and his beard, is imbued with gravity.
The apostle holds the key in one hand, an attribute symbolizing the opening of the gates of Paradise, and in the other hand the closed Book against his chest.
The attitude and the expression give this statue a great majesty.
