Pair of armchairs from Josephine's room

Superb pair of armchairs, stamped Jacob Frères, coming from the bedroom of the Grands Appartements of Josephine Bonaparte at the Palais de Saint Cloud.

They were delivered in September 1802 for the bedroom of Josephine Bonaparte, in St Cloud

Stamp on one of the two Jacob Frères armchairs on the rue Meslée (1796-1803)

Iron mark of 1807, Château de St Cloud

The Châtard label is a restoration label, one of the two is clearly legible -> "Pour le service de l'Impératrice, 1804" relative to the 1804 inventory, we learn that they were entirely gilded on delivery, but gilded and chimera patinated according to the 1807 inventory. It is likely that Châtard did the painting of the griffins in 1804 (perhaps to mark a difference with the armchairs, of a very similar model but fully gilded, delivered in 1804 for the Throne Room...

The Châtard label covers the delivery label, I don't have a strong enough UV lamp but we can read Bonaparte.

The straps are marked J3 and J4
