Joseph Vernet was born in Avignon on August 14, 1714 and died in Paris on December 3, 1789. He was a painter, draughtsman and engraver famous for his seascapes, in France as well as in the whole of Europe, thanks to the greatest royal order of the reign of Louis XV, namely the series of the ports of France.
