A Georgian skeleton mourning ring set with an antique yellow diamond.
English, first half of the 18th century.
The ring is a size P UK / 7.75 US.
The yellow diamond is calculated to weigh approximately 0.45 carat.
The interior is engraved to commemorate the deaths of two people; “F.B : 11 Oct 1728’ and ’T.H 17 Aug 1739”.
The interior is stamped with the maker’s mark ‘HS’.
Typically a rock crystal (also known as a Stuart crystal) would be expected on a ring like this, however the yellow diamond appears to be original.
It retains very minor traces of its original black enamel.
