European Works of Art from the Middle Ages to the XVIIIth century
Splendid Gothic Corpus in bronze, with rests of its original gilding, displayed in a modern painted iron stand.
The long perizonium covering both knees, the serenity in the face expression or the body posture are some of the characteristics allowing to date this figure during the XIVth century; it was probably created either in Spain or in France to decorate a processional cross. The facial quiet expression, with the delicately closed eyes and the nice details of the hair and beard, its beautiful patina and also the remains of original gilding are elements to be outlined in this piece.
