Antonin MERCIER (1845-1916)
French painter, sculptor and medalist. He studied at the Beaux-arts de Paris with Alexandre Falguière as his teacher.
His genius is recognized in sculpture, because he wins the Prix de Rome in 1868.
In 1872, he won a gold medal at the Salon, and was installed on the Hôtel en Ville (now at the Petit-Palais).
His successes will be numerous thereafter, throughout the years.
In painting, too, his talent was recognized. He won a medal at the 1884 Salon for an oil painting of Leda. And he decorated the Capitol of Toulouse.
Our work differs from his very classical production. Here, the touch is lively and joyful and more free.
