Gillis Mostaert, born in Hulst, Netherlands, on June 27, 1528 and died in Antwerp on December 28, 15981, was a Flemish painter contemporary of Pieter Brueghel the Elder. A versatile artist, he excelled in landscape, genre and history painting. He collaborated regularly with the main artists of Antwerp. He is particularly known for his winter landscapes, fire scenes, market and fair representations. His works are among the most sought after of his time.
