This excellent bust in alabaster by the Swiss sculptor Cristoforo Vicari depicts a young woman coyly looking downwards.
The deeply sculpted hair , the expression on her face and the impressive movement suggested in the marble show the incredible talent of this very unknown artist.
Cristoforo Vicari (Caslano 1846 - Lugano 1913)
A Swiss artist from Ticino, Cristoforo Vicari's life is poorly documented.
Nevertheless, his high quality busts and sculptures in white Carrara marble and alabaster can be found on the market.
Some of his works are displayed in public spaces:
• The memorial of the Elvezio Vicarire family in Caslano (Ticino - Switzerland), from 1910
• The statues that crown the central window of the second floor of the Palazzo Lascaris (Turin - Italy)
