Virgin and child in carved and polychrome walnut, 16th century

Very pretty Virgin and Child in polychrome walnut and sculpted in the round from the Renaissance period.
Mary, depicted standing in a slightly swaying attitude, carries the Child Jesus on her left arm. She is dressed in a long dress belted at the waist and a coat held under her arms and falling in a cascade of hectic pleats on the sides.
Her face, youthful and smiling, is topped with beautiful wavy hair that falls freely over her shoulders.
The child raises his right hand in blessing as he supports the globe with his left hand. Her chubby face is surrounded by charming little curls.
A benevolent softness emanates from this charming sculpted group.
