Wood carving and lacquer netsuke representing a court drummer playing the kotsuzumi, the shoulder drum which is used in gagaku, the court music of the
Imperial Household of Japan. The figure wears the court hat tied under his
coin, embroidered robes and trousers, his right leg is drawn up as he beats
the kotsuzumi with the long fingers of his right hand.
