Beautiful Louis XV Louis XVI period marquetry commode, Parisian work, it opens with 5 drawers: 2 large at the bottom, 3 small under the belt simulating only one. Molded gray Sainte Anne marble. It is stamped of Hubert Roux, circa 1777-1780.
Hubert Roux, master in 1777 is a Parisian cabinetmaker. He worked very actively until 1806. Established in rue Saint-Nicolas before the Revolution, he then resided in rue Saint-Antoine. He produced, among other works, many cylinder desks. Two years ago we sold a small chest of drawers stamped by his father Louis Roux, which was probably a collaboration between father and son. This one is stamped by Hubert, so it dates from after he obtained his master degree in 1777, but from the beginning of his career before 1780.
Beautiful model, its proportions are perfect, without any fault of taste. Excellent condition, our chest of drawers comes from the cabinetmaker with a new varnish. Ormolu bronzes are well preserved with slight wear. Traces of old restorations.
