Offered by Danièle Fontaine Antiquaire
French furniture & objets d'art from the 18th century
Beautiful caned armchair with a flat back in molded gilded wood, richly carved with cartouches and foliage.
The front legs are arched, carved with large leaves and the back legs end in a scroll.
The armrests are upholstered with a cherry red wool velvet cuff that is found on the comfort cushion.
The condition of this armchair is exceptional, it is stamped CV. BARA Master on May 13, 1754. (Charles Vincent BARA)
We owe him many caned seats of Regency inspiration or resolutely LXV
He worked on rue des Filles Dieu and then on rue Neuve St Martin until the beginning of the 1780s.
He is the cousin of Pierre BARA and both worked in the same way, so, in the absence of initials of first names, it is impossible to attribute the seats to Charles Vincent or to Pierre
The dimensions of our chair are perfect to accompany a Regence or LXV desk
