Pair of Chinese vases in cinnabar lacquer - 19th century

A pair of cinnabar lacquer vases with relief carved decorations of characters in landscapes. The necks are decorated with leafy scrolls.

Of different colors, the most appreciated lacquers are of red color, obtained from resin of the lacquer tree associated with mercury sulfide, a mineral pigment already used during prehistory for cave painting.

Chinese work of the 19th century.
