A Continental ivory rectangular plaque, 18th century, finely carved with a mythological scene. On the right, we are witnessing the kidnapping of the nymph Amymone who had been charged to discover a source to help the population of Argolis, but a satyr tried to abuse her. Poseidon came to his rescue and launched his trident. Poseidon fell in love with the nymph and united with Amymone. The hymen and Love being represented by this young man on the left armed with a bow, a quiver.
