Gustave Vidal, 1895-1966. Provençal landscape, Barbentane, Avignon. Oil on canvas signed lower right, titled on the back. In this work all the technique and the virtuosity of the master Avignonnais is exacerbated. He sets the scene, the time, the season and the place. Whether by the white stone of the house bathed in sunlight contrasting with the curtains drawn from the windows and open door in order to preserve a semblance of freshness, the dense shade of pines, olive trees and cypresses; where the women with a shopping basket on their arms, not counting the schoolboy in a gray blouse, everything seems to communicate the heat of the sun to its zenith in an early summer blue sky in Barbentane near the Porte Séquier and its square tower. Born in 1895 in Avignon, Gustave VIDAL is a landscape and marine painter. Winner of the Fine Arts of Avignon where he obtained numerous awards. He participates in Paris at the Salon of French Artists, of which he is a member of the company. He painted landscapes of Provence, Camargue and Corsica. As evidenced by this oil, it is undoubtedly one of the best great Provencal landscapers of the early twentieth century. Excellent colorist, he models the dough with a knife like no one before; like a mason he builds his paintings in three dimensions. Compositions always of an accuracy of an admirable balance. VIDAL's painting is alive and above all so terribly Provencal. Oil in superb condition perfectly restored, cleaning and varnish executed in the rules of art. Period frame. Width: 71.5cm frame - 55cm frame Height: 62.5cm frame - 46cm frame. The gallery has several other works by Gustave Vidal.
