Large rosewood marquetry wardrobe,. It opens with two large doors with oak veneer inside, having kept their wrought iron locksmiths and cremone. The furniture is entirely veneered on oak. Very heavy, it can be completely dismantled for transport. Louis XV period, 1750s-60s. CC Saunier stamp and JME jurande hallmark.
Claude Charles Saunier, received master in 1752 is one of the most prestigious French cabinetmakers of the 18th century. Coming from a cabinetmaker dynasty, he took over from his father Jean Charles in 1765 and quickly acquired a great reputation by working for large merchants like Daguerre who gave him an international clientele. He was also one regular suppliers of Versailles during the reign of Louis XVI. If his career started under the Louis XV style, most of his production is related to the transition and Louis XVI style. Our wardrobe undoubtedly relates to the beginning of his prolific career.
Beautiful collector's item, rare. Our wardrobe has been fully restored with an old-fashioned pad varnish. it is supplied with its beautiful original wrought iron key.
The cabinet can be completely dismantled for transport.
Large format but not too high, our furniture is easy to place even in a modern home.
