The shapes from the Renaissance stay in favour during the reign of Henri II. The architecture of the seat is vertical with straight plans. Its balanced figure traces a network of essential lines highlighting its original fabric cover perfectly preserved.
The two Doric columns feet and the two posterior squared feet are strengthened in the lower part with an H shaped crossbar.
The armrest and its feather-quill support show supple curves contrasting with the rigour of the straight elements.
Fixed in the uprights the armrest shows a curve and redresses on the console shaped support.
The seat’s carving is elegant and uses cartouches and crossettes. Because of its hieratic use each chair is unique, it does not belong to a set.
This sober and elegantly balanced armchair conveys an impression of pomp and circumstances. Embodying the walnut Henri II furniture this armchair suits the taste of an era for grace, measures and grandeur.
