Christ on His way to Golgotha - Netherlands, 16th century

Christ on His way to Golgotha. Element of a retable. Christ is carrying His cross while being forced forwards by a soldier pricking Him with a weapon (lance) and kicking Him with his knee in order to continue His way up to Golgotha. Strong expression in both faces: the good and the evil. The soldier looks at his victim, Christ is looking towards us. Nice detail: the right shoulder part of the soldiers dress is adorned with a monster mask. Oak with nice dark patina. Some losses (Cross, part of lance). General condition good. Dimensions: 37x20,5x7cm
