Pair of feminine busts, alabaster, Southern Netherlands, circle of Cornelis Floris de Vriendt II.
Carved in a slightly pink alabaster block, these two small busts of appliques represent young women.
These busts can be compared to the work of Cornelis Floris von Vriendt II, for example the figures of the cenotaph of Frederik I of Denmark. This art with antiquitizing faces and skilful hair shows the influence of northern Italy, especially the work of Tullio Lombardo or Cristoforo Lombardo in particular.
Restored fracture between the two busts with some lacks, as well as at the right neck. The right shoulder of the right girl restored. Minor erosion of alabaster.
Traces of polychromy. On painted wooden base.
