Louise de Bonneval, Countess of Brecey signed Fréderic Vallet Bisson Circa: 1883/1884

After studying with Jules Joseph Lefebvre, a famous painter of the late nineteenth century, Frédérique Vallet-Bisson often appears at the salons of the member of the French Artists and the Salon des femmes. The artist is representative of his paintings of women and flowers and his expressive portraits of the Belle Epoque, such as the impressive composition of current Louise de Bonneval (1850-1907) daughter of Bertrand "Henri" of Bonneval and Amandine -Charlotte-Thérèse of Cossé-Brissac, a work commissioned by Jules-Emile-Antoine de Brecey mayor of Brecey and general counselor of the Manche (1844-1925) who married Louise de Bonneval in 1882. They had no children and the painting remained among the descendants of Jules de Brecey, by the children he had had from a first marriage.

The painting, which depicts the young Countess de Brecey in a light dress, wearing a wreath of flowers, was probably painted shortly after her wedding. The attention of the artist to detail and expressive strokes suggests the specter of the personality of the Duchess.

Throughout the Belle Epoque portraits by artists like Vallet-Bisson, along with his contemporaries Giovanni Boldini and John Singer Sargent, have highlighted the splendor of this period - very often through fashion. The popularity of Vallet-Bisson's paintings in the early 1900s is demonstrated by their reproduction in chromolithographs used for calendars or as part of advertising campaigns. Beautiful frame, dated 1907, P. Husson establishments in Paris, numbered 2269 on a cartel on the back.
