Offered by Le Cabinet d'Amateur
An exceptional hunting dish in faience of Moustiers, from the workshop of Pierre 1er Clerissy, decorated in blue shades of bonfire:
- On the wing: with a frieze of finely crafted embroidery and valances,
- The basin surrounded by a stylized framing hearts and lilies, a rare scene of elephant hunting, derived from Antonio Tempesta engravings.
These prints were part of a series dedicated to the Lord Dragomani Neri, patron of the artist, and has been engraved in February 1598.
We notice:
- On the left, two riders with their lances, one with an oriental hat, will rush to come help hunters to engage with the animal,
- In the center, a horse and rider toppled.
A similar dish, but smaller, with a scene of deer hunting, is part of the museum collections of Aix en Provence
This dish in excellent condition, has its ancient wood stand.
