This polychrome faience group, created by Louis Robert Carrier-Belleuse (1848–1913) for the Choisy-le-Roi manufactory, depicts a tender rural scene: a hen watching over her chicks. Standing 57 cm tall, the piece captivates with its dynamic modeling and the richness of its colorful glazes, which bring to life the texture of feathers, the contours of the ground, and the affectionate interaction between the birds. Signed within the decoration and marked on the base, this work is a testament to the exceptional craftsmanship of the Choisy-le-Roi workshops and to Carrier-Belleuse’s expressive naturalism.
