Early 18th century Japanese porcelain zoomorphic sake jug

Porcelain zoomorphic jug depicting a turtle whose tail curls up to form the handle. The lid is in the shape of a clam. It is decorated in iron red with gold highlights with naturalistic motifs representing birds, prunus flowers and bamboo in cartouches forming scales.
Early 18th century.

Length 18 cm / Height 12 cm

This teapot-like vessel was used for sake.
