Eighteenth century
Boxwood
Height “head and feet”: 36 cm. With base: 44 cm
This large, handsome Corpus Christi in boxwood carved in the round is probably the work of an Eastern French or Germanic image-maker.
Crowned with thorns, his head slightly tilted on his right shoulder, his two feet side by side, this Christ is imbued with a moving, peaceful expression.
Around his waist, a very broad perizonium falls heavily with wide folds.
Superb patina!
Presented on a sober black metal base.
Very fine condition. Sold with a certificate.
