Paintings, sculptures and art objects from the 15th to the 17th century
Our Italian cabinet illustrates the elegance and craftsmanship of inlay in the second half of the 17th century. Made from walnut and rosewood, it is richly decorated on all its surfaces, revealing bone inlays forming motifs where arabesques intermingle, geometric patterns and floral medallions.
The symmetry of the main face highlights the central door adorned with the allegorical figure of Justice; indeed, this one is recognizable because it holds a balance, symbol of balance and equity. In this aspect, this iconography may reflect a humanist sensibility, common in cabinets intended for private collections and cabinets of curiosity.
Although compact, this cabinet has several drawers, designed to store documents or valuable items. The antique iron handles allow easy transport of the cabinet. Being all faces, it can be like a sculpture in a central setting.
