The painting depicts a wide view of the Grand Canal with the two rows of buildings that stand on its banks joined by the magnificent silhouette of the Rialto Bridge..

It is certainly one of the most famous and representative views of Venice and its dreamlike beauty, where the splendid monument, a Renaissance masterpiece of architecture and engineering, stands out in the center of the canvas.

The author of the work is Giuseppe Ponga, one of the most skilled landscape painters working in Venice between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. His paintings are exquisitely crafted, the brush stroke is very fine, and his depictions, always referring to the great Masters of the 18th century, are of great elegance.
The painting is an excellent example of his pictorial skills, showing a completely personal stylistic perfection in the reinterpretation of eighteenth-century Venetian painting.

After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, his vast work ranges across various artistic fields, from mural and easel painting to miniature and watercolor, always retracing the manner and themes of the eighteenth-century models of G. B. Tiepolo and F. Guardi. He received prestigious commissions, such as the decorations of the Parliament Building in Budapest and some rooms of the Royal Palace in Venice. He also painted the famous ten eighteenth-century-style panels that decorate the walls of the magnificent "Gran Caffè Quadri", a historic Venetian café that overlooks Piazza San Marco.
His paintings are very pleasant and their difficult availability on the market makes them highly sought after.
His works are in fact very rare and obtain important results at international auctions.
