Chinese for export, with the coat of arms of the du Barry family
Covered porcelain coffee pot decorated in famille rose enamels with a bouquet of flowers and garlands framing the DU BARRY coat of arms surmounted by a Marquis crown bearing the motto ‘Boutez en avant’ with the insignia of the Order of Saint Louis in the lower part.
18th century circa 1772
This coffee pot comes from a small tea service commissioned in China for Jean-Baptiste Guillaume du BARRY at the Château de Louveciennes, whose wife, Jeanne Bécu (1743-1793), the future Madame du Barry, married her noble husband in order to gain access to the Court of Versailles in 1769 and to become the official mistress of King Louis XV, who fell in love with her.
This service dates from 1771 - 1772, as Jean-Baptiste Guillaume was made a Knight of the Order of Saint-Louis in 1771.
