Lacquered and gilded wood sculpture depicting Amida Nyorai (Amitabha Buddha), standing on a blossoming lotus in front of a mandorla, eyes closed and belly protruding.
He is dressed in an elegantly pleated monastic robe. He performs the vitarka-mudr, the gesture of argumentation and explanation of the law. The usnisha pearl and byakugo (the third eye, between the eyebrows), together symbolizing the Buddhas' elevation to the spiritual state, are both made of crystal.
