Two wonderfully decorated tiles. The first depicts a musician in a rural setting between two trees blowing on - what most probably is - a shawm. The second a stag in profile with three decorative circles. These motifs were stamped (or sometimes carved) in the wet clay, filled with colour and covered with a lead glaze before firing. The musician is a quite rare motif and could be from the Champagne region and the stag was quite popular in Champagne and northern France (cf. Musée de Cluny Inv. Cl. 23972). Both tiles unbroken, very good condition. Good thickness: 3cm. Some losses to the colours of the stag. Dimensions: 12x12x3cm
