A Saint stands, rather strongly hipped, with her head tilted to the right and leaning towards the mortal world, as if she wanted to convey to us a message of peace or hope. Indeed, her face is beautiful and serene, with her almond-shaped eyes with well-defined eyelids, her large mouth with well-curved lips sketching a mysterious smile, her large clear forehead but framed by the elegant undulations of her hair partly covered with a short veil. She is dressed in a long tunic falling in soft folds over her foals. In her right hand, she holds a precious book, the binding covered with precious stones and pearls closed with a hasp. This elegant and mysterious sculpture, still Gothic, was probably part of a large composition of the Last Judgment, or the cycle of the Passion of Christ, and was to be presented at a height.
France Picardy, circa 1780.
