This artist was a pupil of Esaias van de Velde. Asselyn is known for genre scenes, battle scenes, marines, landscapes. In the latter, one can detect an influence of Jan Both and Claude Lorrain, while his battle or history paintings imitate Pieter Van Laer. From a technical point of view, the color of Asselyn is clear and transparent, its touch free and firm, its warm light. Museums: Amsterdam, Basel, Brussels, Dijon
