Pair of 19th Century Porcelain Candle Vases in the Manner of Matthew Boulto

Pair of cassolettes, or candle vases, in the manner of Matthew Boulton.
Gilt bronze, blue porcelain.
Middle of the 19th century.
h. 7,88 in. (without nozzle) ; h. 8,85 in.

A pair of cassolettes or candle vases with reversible finials and nozzles conveniently turning those vases into candlesticks. In the manner of the classic vases of Matthew Boulton, following the design Boulton’s and Fothergill’s designs illustrated on p. 171 of the first volume of their Pattern Book. One of Boulton and Fothergill's most classic designs, it is here interpreted in an original way, combining Boulton's characteristic ormolu with porcelain bodies in cobalt blue, very close to the typically French bleu de Sèvres.
