History :
Jan Havickszoon Steen (Leiden, 1626 - buried in Leiden, February 23, 1679) was a Dutch
painter of the Golden Age.
A representative of the Baroque movement, he was one of the most important Dutch genre painters of his time. He painted several hundred pictures, of uneven quality, but characterized above all by a knowledge of the human heart, humor and an exuberant use of color. He frequently depicted moral values in everyday scenes, using mostly symbolic imagery.
