French Furniture and Art Pieces of the 18th century and Empire period
Pair of lacquered beech chairs, tapered and fluted legs, lacquered, bearing a “M. L'Abbé d'Argenteuil” label and stamped G. Jacob. Louis XVI period. 18th century.
The Abbé d'Argenteuil was chaplain to Louis XV between 1758 and 1769, and died around 1792 during the Terror, in the former Collège du Plessis, transformed into a prison (Martin).
Georges Jacob (1739-1814), was the most famous seat joiner of the 18th century.
