On a ro-iro (black) lacquer base, the decoration represents a silver moon partly hidden by a hira maki-e cartridge and two other vertical cartridges against a background of autumn plants on the banks of a river course water. The inside of the lid shows a pair of mandarin ducks swimming near a prunus tree. Inkstone and silver mizu-ire.
