Louis Gillet, maréchal des Logis in the Artois Regiment. On his way home after taking leave of the army, maréchal de logis Gillet hears screams as he crosses a wood near Autun: two brigands were attacking a young girl they had tied to a tree. He cut the cheek of one and the wrist of the other. He freed the girl, not forgetting to put her clothes back in order, and brought her back to her parents, who thanked him by offering their daughter in marriage. Over 70, Gillet refused, fearing that she would be bored with him. He then lived at Les Invalides in Paris.
