Secretaire par Jean-François Oeben

A Louis XVI period richly veneered and marquetry drop-leaf secretary desk in rosewood, kingwood, sycamore and amaranth. A weight mechanism holds the drop-leaf, various secrets. The "violet breccia" marble is carved and hollowed out on the edge.
Louis XV period work (but already in Louis XVI style) by Jean-François Oeben.
Condition report: restored by our workshop in June 2024.
Restored marble, upper rear parquet flooring redone.

Jean-François Oeben is one of the three most famous cabinetmakers of the 18th century. Official supplier to the Crown, his furniture is exhibited in all the largest museums. His status as supplier to the King exempts him from corporate controls (and therefore from the stamp and jurande) for many pieces of furniture. This secretary desk is an example of a "Louis XVI" style piece of furniture, although well made during the reign of Louis XV....
