A Louis XV office armchair in carved, molded and waxed beechwood, in the shape of an arched gondola, with a dark cane finish; it is as enveloping as it is comfortable. The woodwork of the backrest runs in a single stream, right up to the armrests, so that it seems to continue all around the seat. Elegant, deep moldings, curves and counter-curves, enhanced by deep, fine carvings of pomegranates, peonies and daisies with voluble foliage, enhance the decor. This office chair features an atypical leg layout. This ingenious and highly innovative technical invention consists in shifting the usual leg layout. Instead of the usual square layout, the legs are arranged in a diamond shape at the four cardinal points, to optimize stability. The front leg is positioned at the front of the belt in its protruding middle section, allowing the user to place his or her legs on either side of it. Like the backrest, the seat racket is also dark cane, embellished with a comfortable cognac morocco tile (cushion) to match the armrest cuffs, both identically upholstered.
Typically, this type of armchair was designed to be placed behind a large, flat desk, with the latter facing visitors and thus the entrance to the cabinet; consequently, only its front or, at best, its sides were likely to be carved. As habits and customs evolved, salons and writing boudoirs began to appear in the early years of Louis XV's reign. As a result, small writing desks and other daily pleasures made their appearance, all of which, according to etiquette, had to be accompanied by a specific seat. From then on, the armchair became perspectival in all its angles, requiring continuous sculptural work. The back is no exception; it must be in total and perfect harmony with the decor, which becomes all-round. Our armchair is a perfect example. This avant-garde chair, highly representative of the reign of Louis XV, conveys a notion of fluidity in movement, where everything is delicate, balanced, nervous, elegant and of a quality that is so pleasing to the eye. It's worth noting the great care taken with the impeccable quality of the linking elements.
