Étretat is an oil on canvas by Pierre Lucien LE TRIVIDIC (1898-1960) painted in 1954.
A member of the Rouen School, he was one of the post-impressionists who followed in the footsteps of Charles FRÉCHON (1856-1929) and Joseph DELATTRE (1858-1912).
This work is part of his usual repertoire, mainly consisting of genre scenes and landscapes around Rouen.
With this painting, Le Trividic found a new source of inspiration, drawing on the meditative charge of the Étretat hollow needle, following in the footsteps of the great masters Eugène BOUDIN (1824-1898) and Gustave COURBET (1819-1877). The artist's characteristic touch is perfectly recognizable, marked by an almost palpable dynamism in every element. His painting gives the impression of having been made “on the spot”, expressing a spontaneity that intensifies the torments of the turbulent weather of July 1954.
