Offered by Baptiste Jamez
Superb set consisting of a pair of oval dishes, a pair of round dishes, a pair of sauceboats, and a covered vegetable dish, all entirely in the style of the Transition between Louis XV and Louis XVI. The lobed edges of the dishes feature a strong gadrooned frieze with prominent scrolls centered with acanthus leaves. The handles of the gravy boats are composed of deeply carved acanthus leaves with a scrolling motif, the leaves worked in contrast with amati for the foliage and polished for the veins. The covered vegetable dish is of generous size, circular in shape, with a lip adorned with a triple-moulded band enhanced with scrolls, the body with two substantial scrolling handles decorated with prominent acanthus leaves, a beaded bud on the finial, and the cover with a fluted rim topped with an important finial in the shape of a naturalistic burst pomegranate and foliage in amati.
