"Folie aux fables de La Fontaine" 1780

This very particular and unique painting is inspired by Fontaine's fables, we will recognize several fables.
As for the architectural follies for example, a unique scene with a dreamlike atmosphere links Fontaine's fables into a single world.
The old chassis from the 18th or very early 19th century can make one think of an exceptional themed wood panel, located in a folly, or a factory for example.
Moreover, the rather allegorical work would not be classified as a classic artistic pictorial work.
We will also think of the very rich work that Gustave Moreau did to illustrate Fontaine's fables, first the preparatory watercolors then the engravings that we know.
Few illustrators have so fusionally enriched a literary monument of the magnitude of Fontaine's fables.
Although very different, our painting also creates a "real" view of the fables.
Condition:
Restored and relined (30 years?) so in very good condition.
