Beautiful small cabaret table in solid mahogany for the bowl top and the four crosspieces and mahogany-stained cherry for the legs.
It opens with a drawer on the front.
The four crosspieces are molded and fretted; they rest on four arched legs ending in delicate snail-shaped scrolls.
The polylobed bowl top is carved from a single piece of wood. (monoxyl).
One side has a small border 14 cm long by 2 cm added.
This piece is certainly original and wanted by the cabinetmaker to replace an unsightly knot.
The circular veins of the wood nearby, the assembly with small dovetails of the piece and its wear seem to confirm our hypothesis.
Good condition; small restorations of use.
Very beautiful patina.
Atlantic Facade, Louis XV period around 1740-1750.
Dimensions:
Height: 66 cm; Width: 57.5 cm; Depth: 34 cm
Our opinion:
The small table that we present perfectly symbolizes the delicacy of the Louis XV style.
Its lightness allowed it to be easily moved in order to have tea, coffee or chocolate in beautiful porcelain cups from China.
Its precious commodities were the preserve of the great merchants of the Atlantic facade, just like the exotic wood from America which was used to wedge the goods before making the happiness of local cabinetmakers.
The originality of our table comes from the shape of its quadrilobed top which is a legacy of the Regency style, which lasted in the provinces until the 1750s.
